The Mid-Year Reset: You Don’t Have to Start Over

As we move into the second half of the year, many people find themselves asking a familiar question:

“Am I where I thought I would be by now?”

Perhaps you started the year with goals, intentions, or a clear vision of what you hoped would change. Maybe some things have gone well. Maybe some have not. Perhaps life became busier than expected, unexpected challenges emerged, or priorities shifted along the way.

This is often the point in the year when people become discouraged. They begin focusing on what has not happened instead of what is still possible.

But what if June is not a time for judgment?

What if it is a time for reflection of decisions made and actions needing to be taken moving forward?

A reset is not about starting over. It is not about criticizing yourself for what you have not accomplished. A meaningful reset begins with honesty.

What am I carrying that is no longer serving me?

What habits, commitments, expectations, or pressures have become heavier than they need to be?

What have I learned about myself during the first half of the year?

What support do I need moving forward?

Recently, I had the opportunity to co-facilitate a community workshop on women’s mental health. During our conversation, we discussed stress, anxiety, depression, emotional wellness, and the importance of recognizing when we need support.

What lingered after the workshop was:

How many women often carry more than others can see and are often afraid to reach out for the support they need.

Many women carry responsibilities at work, responsibilities at home, caregiving demands, relationship concerns, financial pressures, health challenges, leadership responsibilities, and expectations they place on themselves. Often, they continue moving forward without pausing long enough to acknowledge the weight they are carrying.

The same is true within our workplaces and organizations.

Employees, leaders, and teams are often navigating stressors that are not immediately visible. This is why conversations about wellness, psychological safety, resilience, and support matter. Healthy workplaces are not built by asking people to simply push harder. They are built by creating environments where people can communicate openly, access support, and perform sustainably.

Whether you are reflecting on your personal life, your professional goals, your leadership journey, or your organization’s culture, I encourage you to consider the following questions:

  • What is working well that I want to continue?
  • What is creating unnecessary stress?
  • What do I need to release?
  • What support would help me move forward?
  • What is one meaningful change I can make before the end of the year?

You do not need to have everything figured out.

You do not need to start over.

You simply need the willingness to pause, reflect, and take the next right step.

The second half of the year is still being written.

The great news is that you can still shape how the year ends.

Your decisions, one step at a time, can move you closer to the direction you want your life, work, and well-being to go.

So choose intentionally.

Make the rest of the year count.
